CLIMATE CHANGE CENTER was established in 2008 as Korea's first non-governmental organization
to promote the seriousness of climate change and respond to climate change.
On November 18, CHOI Jai-chul delivered a keynote address at the “Climate Strategy Forum for Gangwon Province and Chuncheon City in Response to the Climate Crisis” held at the Global Business Hall of Kangwon National University. Speaking on the theme “The Advent of Carbon Neutrality and the Climate Economy Era: The Strategic Choices for Gangwon Province and Chuncheon City,” he underscored that in the era of carbon neutrality, regional choices and implementation capacity are decisive factors shaping national competitiveness.
During his lecture, Chairman CHOI highlighted the strategic significance that renewable energy resources, distributed energy systems, and the region’s evolving economic structure will bring to Gangwon Province and Chuncheon City. He stressed that the transition to a climate economy is not merely an environmental agenda, but rather a convergence of industrial transformation, investment strategy, and talent development.
Chairman CHOI also emphasized that regional carbon neutrality becomes achievable when the commitment of local governments aligns with policy engagement at the municipal and provincial levels. He noted that carbon neutrality takes root when a university’s research, talent cultivation, and innovation capacity directly connect with on-the-ground energy and industrial transitions. In this regard, he expressed high expectations for Kangwon National University to grow into a leading initiative driving climate and energy transformation in the region.
